Brain Drain, Silenced Expertise, and Environmental Collapse

The conversation
If listeners remember one thing, remember this: Iran’s environmental crisis is not only about drought, water shortages, or climate change. It is also about what happens when a country loses its scientists, ignores expertise, and silences the people who could help protect nature.
This episode asks a simple question: What happens when a country faces environmental collapse, but the scientists, researchers, and environmental experts who could help solve the crisis are pushed out, ignored, or forced to leave?
I want to show that Iran’s environmental crisis has two sides. The first side is visible: drying lakes, disappearing rivers, dust storms, air pollution, water shortages, and damaged ecosystems. The second side is less visible but just as dangerous: brain drain, lack of scientific freedom, weak environmental governance, and the silencing of experts.
The episode ends with a second question: How can Iran protect its environment if it doesn't protect the people who understand it?
The big idea
Iran’s environmental crisis is not only about drought, water shortages, or climate change. It is also about what happens when a country loses its scientists, ignores expertise, and silences the people who could help protect nature.
